The Jaguar XK8/R (development code X100) was the first generation of a new XK series. With its low stance and graceful lines it's surely one of the best looking Jaguars ever built. The XK8 was available in coupé or convertible body styles. It was manufactured at the Castle Bromwich factory in Birmingham UK.

Launched in 1996 with a new design aluminium 4.0L, V8 engine, the Jaguar XK8 was an instant success. A 4.0L V8 Supercharged (XKR) version was launched in 1998 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. 4.2L naturally aspirated (XK8) and Supercharged (XKR) engines were introduced in 2003 paired with ZF 6HP26 six-speed automatic transmissions.

The XK's interior features the classic Jaguar look with Connolly leather and burl walnut trim available as standard.17-inch alloy wheels come as standard on the XK8 while the XKR has 18-inch alloy wheels as standard. 19-inch and 20-inch alloy wheels are optional.

The Jaguar XK is fitted with Jaguar's second generation Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) unit. The supple suspension, easy acceleration and precise steering makes it a dream car to drive. Production continued until 2005 with just over 91,000 units built giving way to it's successor the Jaguar X150.
