The Jaguar S-Type is a mid-size executive car that debuted at the 1998 Birmingham Motor Show and went on sale in spring 1999. The name is a revival of a previous Jaguar model, the S-Type introduced in 1963. The new Jaguar S-Type, a stylish four-door sedan, remained in production until 2008.

The S-Type was powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines including a 2.5L V6, 3.0L V6 and a Jaguar 4.0L AJ-V8. The capacity of the 4.0L engine was later increased to 4.2L. The transmission featured either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic upto 2002. As from 2003 the S-Type came with either five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission which allowed for automatic gear selection or manual gear selection (semi automatic transmission).

The supercharged S Type R, an all-round performer, was introduced in 2002 powered by a newly revised 4.2L V8 390hp engine. It could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.3 seconds and proudly displayed "R" badging on the boot lid and both front wings. An electronic parking-brake paddle-switch replaced the conventional manually operated lever for the rear brakes for the 2003 model.

The S-Type's features and styling have consistently been complimented by the buying public. A minor facelift on the 2005 model year featured redesigned front and rear aprons, a slightly modified grille, remodeled rear light clusters, an aluminium bonnet, and a new 2.7-litre V6 diesel engine with 207 hp (154 kW). The cabin interior remained unchanged. The S-Type was discontinued in spring 2008 and was replaced by the Jaguar XF.
