The Land Rover Freelander 2 debuted in 2006 and was acclaimed as the best off-road vehicle in its class. It is marketed in North America as LR2 and the first vehicle in the US was sold in 2007.
The Freelander 2 performs incredibly well on and off-road and has a particularly impressive ride quality. It features the trade mark Land Rover technology off-road driving system known as Terrain Response System. With this system you simply select different settings on a rotary knob to match diverse surface conditions for improved off-road driving. In addition to this system it also features Hill Descent Control. These unique features and an improved ground clearance combine to make the Freelander 2 very capable in rough driving conditions.
Land Rover made great advances in its eco campaign to reduce C02 emissions when it introduced the stop-start technology for the first time ever in an SUV. It was introduced in the Freelander 2 TD4_e launched in 2009. The stop-start function shuts the engine when the car is stationary and restarts the car when the clutch pedal is depressed. This system enables a significant reduction in carbon emissions and savings on urban fuel economy by up to 20 per cent.
The Freelander 2 received a face-lift for the 2013 model with a classy new interior and new LED headlights. It now features a 2.2L diesel engine in either 2WD or 4WD.
