Land Rover Range Rover MK III - Range Rover L322 Diagram

The third-generation Range Rover model from British car maker Land Rover was introduced in 2002 under the internal codename L322. It launched with a 4.4L V8 petrol engine and a 2.9L TD6 diesel with automatic 5-speed transmission. The manual transmission was dropped entirely. A new 4.2L supercharged V8 Jaguar engine was introduced in 2006 in the premium models as well as a 3.6L TDV8 diesel engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. More powerful 5.0L supercharged V8 petrol engines and 4.4L TDV8 diesel engines were introduced in 2009 and 2010 and a new 8-speed ZF 8HP70 automatic transmission added for the 2011 model.

Land Rover had been sold to Ford at the time the Range Rover L322 was being launched but the model was actually designed when the company was under BMW ownership. It still retained the awesome Land Rover "go anywhere" attitude but with extraordinary levels of luxury, comfort and prestige. A four-wheel independent air suspension system replaced the former beam axles. The air suspension allowed variable ride height retaining off-road ability and improving on-road perfomance. It also features Electronic Traction Control,Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), the Land Rover trademark Hill Descent Control (HDC) and standard anti-lock brakes.

Luxury and convenience features such as Park Distance Control plus eight air bags to cover both front and rear passengers come as standard features. A 2006 update brought onboard the Terrain Response System, the same one found on the Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport, a revised suspension, refined interior and better brakes. The Range Rover L322 eventually made way for the fourth generation Range Rover, the 2013 model Range Rover L405.
